Justifying it is easy, getting support and living with the consequences is another thing all together. Many of the times the US has employed assassins and removed the target, they have ended up with a worse person to deal with. When you kill someone who has power, you create a vacuum, and normally the most ruthless try to fill that gap. And others don't share the viewpoint that is justified in killing certain people (who normally hold similar views) and do not give support.
