>> Why not? Why wouldn't an American want to kill Osama bin Laden?
>> There is an easy way for the US Government to assassinate terrorists,
>> first, indict them with a grand jury, per say like in New York for 9/11
>> issue a warrant that basically says, surrender or die. I think you are suggesting just returning to the wild-west approach of
putting a "wanted dead or alive" poster up outside the saloon (or on an
pornographic Internet site in the modern age) and letting soldiers of fortune
do the work for you. Of course in Asia that would be regarded as an act of war by the vile little
pseudo-despots who see terrorism as an opportunity for gaining greater
subsidies from hardworking and less corrupt Western countries. But I digress. The US has already offered $US30M for Osama's head, and it
hasn't worked - why? Perhaps
- Because the local people don't know how much $US30M is ("I guess I could
pay a years rent with that money, or buy a few goats").
- Because he is protected by religious fanatics who don't care about money
(and they are really scary people).
- Because he is good at evading capture.
But whatever the reason is, we have market failure here. The US has decided
to go for a different approach.
