Don't think that line of argument is unreal. It is VERY real.
Modern day Civilisation (as we like to believe) is predominantly urban.
Most people have no use for firearms, for their food is already dead and in shrink wrapped little modules.
Practicaly - unfamiliarity is commonplace.
Sadly - the urban majority gain their knowledge of firearms based on the spectacular and unreal situations depicted in what masquerades as 'entertainment'.
Always are guns portrayed as being used by criminals.
It is no wonder therefore that the ignorant majority believe that "Because criminals have guns, therefore those who have guns are criminals."
The end effect is that funds and resources are misdirected, save for placating the mass ignorants.
That is why the opening dialogue is very real.
It is mad, but is real. Some facts that never surfaced (buried!).

Name of Gunman: Huan Yun Xiang
History: 36yr old Malaysian "Honours Student."
Details: He acquired "four semi-automatic hand guns.
Police: Screwed up (deliberately?). Xiang should NEVER have had a firearms license let alone a handgun license.
Reaction: Place bans and restrictions on a group in society who historically are of the most law abiding kind. (Ref Justice Minister Vanstone's report that reviewed 9 years of national records and found that NOT ONE licensed handgun owner had used the same in the commission of crime.) It has very recently surfaced that commonplace is the scam to 'study' in Australia, but proved merely a backdoor way to get permanemt residency. How could Xiang study when he struggled with his English and could not make himself understood. How does a non resident person, on a student visa legally obtain a firearms license, let alone a handgun license that REQUIRES criminal records checks? I won't start - suffice to say it is another SCAM of the highest order that is effectively fragmenting this nation. "Welcome to the Machine" for you are "Another Brick in the Wall"
