Actually for once, Fatfingers, I largely agree. The Public Service (or the DoD if you prefer) gave him an
opportunity which he took (like every politician would have done). Then that same (incompetent) department realized the information was wrong, and 'Opportunistic' Johnny knew that this would be extremely damaging because
people would scream 'liar, liar!' even though he had been quite honest (ie he believed what he said at the time, and for good reason). He wasn't going to wear the false accusations of 'liar, liar!' before the election, so he chose to turn off his hearing aid until the poll was complete. Hardly the epitome of integrity, but I don't know of any
politician who would have behaved with greater honesty in a similar situation. At the end of the day Johnny is a politician, and politicians either lie or don't get elected. The voting public are just not smart enough to vote for someone who is totally honest.
