How do you think John Howard has achieved such immense strides in making his agenda law in the last month? I suppose you'd rather stay pure than be effective. That's your right of course. It's not easy being in Coalition with a mob of (selective) socialists. You have to (shock horror) negotiate with them and even (more shock horror for religious fundamentalists like libertarians) occasionally compromise with them. But it sure beats being totally ineffectual like the ALP was for many years after the split of the 1950s when they believed than being pure in Opposition was better than being pragmatic and in Government. I don't have much time for the Deity from Cabramatta, but at least you have to give him credit for dispensing with that mindset in the ALP. However, like you, I sure am glad to see Joyce with egg all over his face on VSU. Gives a whole new meaning to the Graham Kennedy line "joke, Joyce!"
