Australia's sparseness of population is matched only by the scarcity of water. In abundance, however was the population's enthusiasm to embrace the principles of multiculturalism, while having no sense of national identity and, before September 11, no real desire for sovereignty of their island.
It also has a high standard of living, low rates of violence, a naturally declining population and an obsession with distribution of wealth.
